Describe your first WOD with CrossFit Little Rock?
I don’t remember if it was the first one but two things I remember early on were falling down during box jumps during a WOD in front of a lot of people that were waiting for the next class to start and another time in the first week Matt made me quit the WOD with about a minute left because he thought I was getting a little blurry eyed.
What was the catalyst that made you think, “I have to start working out” or “change your current work routine”?
Every year I get an annual physical. My doctor has seen me in shape and out of shape. I had been out of shape too long and my blood pressure was getting too high. He told me that he knew I could do it because he’s seen me in shape before. He said I’m giving you one last chance…either get the weight off and get in shape or you’re going on blood pressure medicine. I knew it was time to get it done. Four months after I started Crossfit I had the appointment that he made me schedule to review my progress and he was pretty much in shock at my progress. I have been going to this doctor about ten years and he said my lab results, blood pressure, etc was the best it had ever been.
Describe your most memorable experience with us?
About the time I was starting to get in the groove after the first couple of months of coming to Crossfit the box changed hands. Being a creature of habit, probably to a fault, I got pretty nervous that my whole deal was going to derail and I didn’t take it so well at first. I decided to stick it out and it was definitely the right decision. Once the dust settled from the changeover I ended up liking it better than before. Good job Jonathan!
How has being apart of CrossFit Little Rock changed your life? (i.e. weight loss, health benefits, completed a 5K, etc.)
The most obvious and noticeable change is that I have lost 30lbs since I started. I have had issues with high blood pressure on and off for several years and my current blood pressure readings are the best they’ve ever been. The most noticeable change for me personally has been a more positive mental attitude.
What is your favorite WOD and why?
I don’t have a favorite WOD because, to me, even though every WOD is different, all WOD’s are the same. I usually get a little nervous before every one and I always feel good after every one.
What is your favorite movement and why?
I would probably say the Clean and Jerk because when you can get something heavy off the ground and over your head you can do a lot with that in everyday situations.
What are some of your current goals in CrossFit?
I’ve only got really one goal and that is to be able to brush my teeth without having any shake in my belly fat. I’ve got a long way to go!
