How long have you been doing CrossFit?

Kelly-since Oct 2012

Dave-solo from May 07-Sep 11. Gym since Oct 2011. 

Where do you work at?  What is your position?  What do you do there?

Kelly-I'm a stay-at-home-wifey looking for something part-time.

Dave-I'm a Student Navigator for the C-130 with the Texas Air National Guard. 

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?

Kelly-Every weekend, I look forward to date night with Dave at a non-chain restaurant and running our chocolate lab, Bridgette, on the River Trail together (if it isn't too cold and windy).

Dave-Date night! I enjoy sleeping in, reading, and doing something unique to make it memorable. 

What is your favorite cheat meal?

Kelly-My dream cheat meal would start with margaritas and chips and queso, followed by pizza from ZaZa's, and finished with a pint of Ben n' Jerry's half baked ice cream!

Dave-My favorite cheat meals include Mexican food, a gigantic cheeseburger, and deli sandwiches.    

Describe your first WOD with CrossFit Little Rock?

It involved HSPU's--enough said? 

What was the catalyst that made you think, “I have to start working out” or “change your current work routine”?

Kelly-I went to CrossFit once a week (on Saturday mornings) for two years because Saturday classes were free (yes, I was THAT girl!). I wasn't ready to give up my 24 Hour Fitness membership with classes like kick boxing, hip hop dancing and spin. Once Dave and I got married, I had the perfect reason to join--so we could workout together! Plus, I was ready to see a change in my abilities, and CrossFit has really pushed me beyond how I was being challenged with my 24HF workouts!

Dave-I’ve always had to maintain some level of fitness having joined the Navy Reserves when I was 18.  I heard about CrossFit during a PCS to Ellsworth (Rapid City, SD), so I decided to check it out.  Of all the workouts to choose from the main site I, of course, chose Fran.  Afterwards, I remember laying on the floor for 10 minutes not being able to breathe, my teeth going from numb to tingly, and pretty much wanting to curl up into a ball and suck my thumb until I either fell asleep or died.  After that, I was hooked!

Describe your most memorable experience with us?

Kelly-Judging the Reindeer Games was such a cool experience. Watching those athletes was inspiring (especially the females). There was a lot of talent in our gym! PS-I learned that I'm made to be more of a cheerleader/encourager than a judge though. :)

Dave-My most memorable experience so far was also judging the Reindeer Games. It was a great experience to see the competitive side of CrossFit from a judge's perspective. 

How has being a part of CrossFit Little Rock changed your life? (i.e. weight loss, health benefits, completed a 5K, etc.) 

Kelly-CrossFit has definitely made me stronger and daily reminds me I wish I was more flexible! Coming to CFLR is the part of my day that I look forward to most! This gym is full of sincere people, talented athletes and an awesome community where I feel encouraged and challenged! You guys made Dave and I feel at home from day one!

Dave-Knowledge.  Having been to several CrossFit gyms over the years for either a PCS or taking leave, CFLR is top notch when it comes to equipping their athletes.  I haven’t been to any other gym that offers such a wide assortment of classes and seminars.  It’s one thing to check all the main sites (CrossFit, Endurance, Football, etc) to try and take away a little nugget of information from a 1:30 minute video, and another to have a two-hour class on how the Russians do the snatch.  

What is your favorite WOD and why?

Kelly-My favorite is any WOD with a partner and without a bar because I like the built-in rest and the camaraderie of teaming up to try and be first place!

Dave-My favorite WOD is Helen because it's a good all around workout. 

What is your favorite movement and why?

Kelly-I have more "least favorites" than favorites because there are still so many movements I can't do yet! Rowing is my favorite though because I think it is one of the few CrossFit movements that is made for tall people!

Dave-My favorite movement is the power clean because I like the thought of moving a lot of weight over a large distance.  It’s so violent!

What are some of your current goals in CrossFit?

Kelly-here are my goals between now and June: to not have to use a band for pull-ups in a WOD, double unders without a single in between each, one HSPU (although my main goal should be to work on mobility every day!)

Dave-Goals for 2014: 5 HSPU, 20 DU, 10 butterfly PU, Clean-240, Squat-325, Press-190.  Totally doable!!  And achieving those gets me a cheat meal!
